Fire on the Mountain has been a part of Dover’s outdoor community since 1989, offering quality gear, expert advice, and a true passion for adventure. What began as a ski specialty shop has grown into a year-round destination for people who love exploring the outdoors. Whether your passion is skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, or fly fishing, we provide the gear and guidance to help you enjoy every season. 

In late 1989 two lifetime skiers felt the time was right to take a risk and open a new ski shop on the seacoast. They wanted to pioneer a shop dedicated to offering the best in custom ski tuning and repair.  Every year afterward brought new lines and a steady expansion into the old house at the corner of First and Chestnut streets. Each spring they would go to ski/snowboard hotspots in Utah, Colorado, Vermont and Wyoming to meet product managers and find new and exciting products to introduce to our growing customer base. In 2025 it was decided to move into our new shop at 264 Central Avenue with an expanded all-season store , open year-round and offering summer brands and gear.

Our roots are in winter sports, and we are still known for our knowledgeable staff, professional boot fitting, and wide selection of skis, snowboards, boots, and outerwear. We also offer tuning services to keep equipment in top shape. Our staff is made up of experienced skiers and riders who understand how the right gear can make all the difference. 

In the warmer months, our focus shifts to hiking, camping, and fly fishing. Our hiking department features footwear, backpacks, and trail-ready apparel from trusted brands, while our camping selection includes tents, sleeping bags, cooking gear, and lighting. Fly fishing has become a customer favorite, and we carry rods, reels, flies, and accessories for anglers of all skill levels. Our team can also recommend local fishing spots in New Hampshire and Maine.

Fire on the Mountain is more than just a store. We are part of the Dover community, participating in local events, supporting outdoor programs, and partnering with organizations that encourage people to get outside. Our mission is to inspire and equip customers for memorable outdoor experiences.
